Product Description

De Koninck is the only brewery left in Antwerp, a city which boasted 28 after the war. Today no other city in Belgium has such a close relationship with its brewery or its local beer. Served in its own unique bowl shaped glass, the "bolleke"; one only has to ask for "a bolleke" to be brought a refreshing glass of De Koninck.

The original inception of the brewery was in 1833, in a guest house owned by the widow of Joseph de Koninck and her second husband. Since then the brewery has passed down through the family and is now run by the Van den Bogaerts. The brewery has expanded and modernised over the years but still retains its historic façade. Top fermented ales are produced from the very best ingredients. Brewing is carried out for 4 days per week, with Fridays reserved for maintenance: 'On weekends the brewer needs to drink'.

About the beer... At 5.5%, De Koninck is a delightfully drinkable Belgian pale ale, with a rich amber colour. A rich, malty nose with touches of wood and leather. The hops are discreet and the slightly spicy caramel flavour subsides to leave a drying finish.
